In 2016, the nucleus of Serageldin Institute for Multidisciplinary Advanced Research “SIMAR” was initiated, where the mission was to conduct quantitative analysis and modeling in different multidisciplinary areas. The multidisciplinary research undertaken at SIMAR was meant to reach meaningful diagnosis and policy prescriptions across various sectors, to include poverty, education, health, quality of measurement, food security, democracy, climate change, population, attitude surveys, and household analysis, …etc.

The Institute is composed of qualified researchers experienced in all quantitative techniques including econometrics, statistics, modelling, data mining, artificial intelligence, machine learning,…etc.

Objectives:

  • Conducting multi-disciplinary research by means of quantitative-analysis approaches as well as econometric techniques to investigate economic and social phenomena. 
  • Publishing research papers in high-ranking international peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Monitoring and following up on the current economic news on the local, regional and global arena, examining it, and detecting its most important effects and implications on the Egyptian economy.
  • Conducting seminars with eminent economists and other specialists to shed light on and analyze the most important current economic events at the local and regional levels on the one hand, and to support the SIMAR research team on the other.
  • Organizing international scientific conferences to discuss the most important economic issues on the local, regional and international arenas.
  • Collaborating with local and international organizations, research centers, and universities to conduct joint research.
  • Training the recruited team in order to build the skills needed for research.

  1. Collaboration with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).

  2. Collaboration with the National Water Research Institute.

  3. Collaboration with the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

  4. Collaboration with the Economic Research Forum (ERF) in the area of data cleansing (a memorandum of understanding with the ERF was signed in 2019).

  5. Collaboration with the Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) Institute, at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

  6. Collaboration with the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, in the area of data cleansing.

  7. Collaboration with the Free University of Berlin, Germany (a cooperation protocol was signed in 2018).
