The BA Organizes Two Courses on Ancient Greek
Posted on
The BA Writing and Scripts Center is organizing two courses on Ancient Greek, Level I and Level II, from 16 November to 28 December 2025, on Sundays and Wednesdays (Level I) and Mondays and Thursdays (Level II) of each week. The courses will be delivered by Ms. Rana El-Zalabany, a researcher at the Center.
The course aims to enable participants to understand the basics of Ancient Greek and learn its rules and structures, in addition to training them to read and analyze inscriptions and original historical sources written in this language. The course is a unique opportunity for students, researchers, and those interested in archaeology, history, and tourism, as well as those interested in ancient languages and written heritage in general.
The first level (beginners) focuses on the basics and initial rules of Ancient Greek, and does not require prior knowledge of the language as the curriculum progresses from learning the Ancient Greek alphabet and its pronunciation to understanding and translating Ancient Greek sentence structure. The second level (advanced) focuses on more complex rules and requires successful completion of the first level so that students can understand and translate more advanced texts. The curriculum for both levels is based on training with different examples of inscriptions and artifacts bearing Greek text. The curriculum also relies on historical and archaeological discussions, providing trainees with the historical and archaeological background necessary to understand and analyze the written texts.
The two courses are held at the BA Main Building for six consecutive weeks (two lectures per week for each level), with the necessary scientific material provided to the participants.
