The BA Antiquities Museum organized a World Heritage Day celebration, on Wednesday, 17 April 2024.
The celebration started with a presentation entitled "World Heritage Day... Between Meaning and Importance", presented by Ms. Wafaa Yehia Abdel Aziz, Teaching Assistant at the Tourism Guidance Department, Faculty of Tourism and Hotels, Alexandria University. She discussed with the audience the concept of cultural heritage and its degrees, from family heirloom to world heritage. She also highlighted the importance of heritage in the prosperity of local communities, as well as in tourism, economic development, and international cooperation.
The event also shed light on the different classifications of cultural heritage, including tangible, intangible, and natural heritage. It also examined the means of preserving this heritage for future generations through a discussion with the audience.
Additionally, the event featured an interesting presentation titled "Alexandria on My Mind" in an interactive educational workshop, aimed at developing a sense of the importance of preserving heritage, and introducing the most significant heritage, tourist, and archaeological sites in Alexandria.
