The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing the “Alex Med Cultural Forum: Mediterranean Bonds that Unite Us” from 21 to 23 October 2025, at its Conference Center and Plaza, as part of the celebration of Alexandria's selection as the first capital of culture and dialogue in the Mediterranean region for 2025 by the Union for the Mediterranean.
The forum brings together a host of intellectuals, artists, and creators from various Mediterranean countries in a unique cultural event that aims to highlight shared cultural heritage and promote dialogue and cultural exchange among peoples.
The forum is launched under the slogan “Mediterranean Bonds that Unite Us,” based on three main features that bring together the past, present, and future: common roots and Mediterranean identity, ongoing dialogue, and shaping the future. A variety of events will be presented, including seminars, panel discussions, heritage exhibitions, artistic and musical performances, and the Mediterranean Food Festival.
The events will take place at the conference center, which will host seminars and panel discussions, and the Plaza, which will host the “Alexandria at the Turn of the 20th Century” exhibition and the Alex Food Festival, along with daily performances by folk art troupes. The East Exhibition Hall will also host the Deltas del Mediterráneo exhibition in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy in Egypt, while the Small Theater will host the “Opus Alexandrinum” concert on the evening of October 22, documenting the musical life of the Greek community in Alexandria from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century.
The forum is organized by the Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center (Alex Med), the Arts Center, and the Exhibitions Department at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in collaboration with the Anna Lindh Foundation, the Union for the Mediterranean, the Spanish Embassy in Cairo, the Hellenic Foundation for Books and Culture in Alexandria, the EU National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC), and the Alexandria International Exhibition for Mediterranean Food.
