The Bibliotheca Alexandrina has opened the “Ibero-American Archaeological Heritage” photo exhibition, as part of the Ibero-American Week celebrations held in Alexandria for the fifth consecutive year with the aim of further promoting cultural exchange and cooperation between the Alexandrian public and Ibero-American countries.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. Mohamed Soliman, Acting Deputy Director of the BA, on behalf of Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the BA; Ms. Heba El-Rafey, Acting Head of the BA External Relations and Media Sector; and H.E. Ms. Leonora Rueda, Ambassador of Mexico to Cairo, in the presence of a number of ambassadors, consuls, and directors of cultural centers.

Ms. Heba El-Rafey welcomed ambassadors of Ibero-American countries, representatives of diplomatic missions, and attendees to the opening of the fifth edition of the exhibition at the BA, noting that the exhibition represents a new bridge for communication based on shared archaeological heritage that connects Ibero-American cultures with Egyptian cultural heritage.

In a speech delivered on behalf of the Ibero-American countries, H.E. Ms. Leonora Rueda, Ambassador of Mexico to Cairo, thanked Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the BA, for his continued support and for providing the opportunity for the BA to once again be a meeting place between Ibero-America and Egypt.

She said, “The exhibition includes photographs from 13 countries in Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain, and Portugal, through which we invite the Egyptian public to enjoy a visual journey through the traces left by ancient civilizations as well as European and American cultural expressions in our region.”

The exhibition is open to the public from 14-21 October 2025.
